Where can we take you this month?

Our guide to exploring Edinburgh

It’s January and everyone is ready for a new year with new plans and resolutions.

Why not make exploring Edinburgh by bus part of your 2018?

We operate over 70 bus services that will take you throughout Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian covering over 885 miles.

This month we thought we would share some great places that we can take you to that are a bit further afield than you might normally go.

  1. Hop on the service 41 to the village of Cramond.  Stroll along the beach, see the boats at the harbour or visit Cramond Tower. If you time it right you can also take a walk out to Cramond Island, just make sure don't get your feet wet!

  2. Why not explore the Pentland Hills? A short trip on the service 44 will take you to Balerno. From there you can start your adventure and new year fitness campaign by hitting the hills or walking along the Water of Leith to Slateford and catching a 4, 44 or 300 home from there.

  3. If hills aren’t for you, how about visit to Dalkeith Country Park?  There's lots for everyone to do, young and old.  Fort Douglas, the Restoration Yard, walking and fishing are just some of the activities on offer.  With a choice of buses to get you there, 3, 33, 39, 40 or 49, there's no reason not to!

  4. Portobello offers you two miles of sandy beaches, fish and chips and sea air.  Jump on services 21, 26, 42 or 49 and you can walk off the chips before catching a bus from the other end of the promenade, you'll have made room for some ice cream too!

  5. For the more adventureous of you, why not walk part of the John Muir Way?  Our service 26 will take you to Prestonpans where you can start the nine mile walk along to the shore at Musselburgh, under the rocky hill of Arthur Seat and onto the Meadows where you can get a choice of buses back home (11, 15, 16, 23, 24, 41 or 42).

Edinburgh is an amazing City which most of us take for granted, get out and see some more of it.
