International Women's Day 2018

Spotlight on Charmaine Laurie

With an ever growing female workforce and International Women's Day tomorrow, we thought we would share with you a little more on our 'Driver of the Moment' Charmaine Laurie.

Charmaine made headline news when a video of her expertly swerving her bus to avoid a car on the wrong side of the road in the snow went viral last week.  She was on front page of the Edinburgh Evening News, The Scotsman and The Herald as well as being interviewed on BBC News, Reporting Scotland, STV, Good Morning Britain and Channel 5 News.

We asked her about her job at Lothian.

When did you start working with us Charmaine?
I joined Lothian in March 2015.

Why did you want to work for Lothian?
I had worked in an office for 15 years and wanted a change.  I have always enjoyed driving and had heard good things about the company from my friend and family that worked there.  My husband worked for Lothian and encouraged me to apply.

What do you enjoy about your job?
As I said, I really enjoy driving and and I like meeting all the customers that get on my bus every day.  Everyone gets on well and it's good to have a laugh in the canteen on breaks.

How have you found all the attention this week?
It's been a bit overwhelming but I have received some really lovely comments from customers, friends and colleagues.

We have women working throughout our business, in engineering, administration, operations, driving, our catering department and our management team.
